The community at Trumpington Meadows
The community at Trumpington Meadows is taking shape. It has seamlessly integrated with the existing village of Trumpington to create a true community in the traditional sense. There are now approximately 1,500 people living at Trumpington Meadows. A good number of them turned out to the recent "Wildlife Day of Discovery" on Saturday 11th June which was the official opening of the Trumpington Meadows Country Park & Nature Reserve.
Grosvenor and USS were proud sponsors at this event where the local community was able to explore 58 hectares teaming with wildlife,
flowers and newly created meadows.
Activities included Smoothie Bike; where smoothies were
made just by pedal power, guided walks through the meadows to discover insects,
flowers and at the end creating creatures to take home, raffles to win a
Waitrose hamper and wildlife prizes and finally a Dr Bike to ensure the journey
home on two wheels was safe.
Local community groups on the day included Shelford and
District Bridleway Group and British Horse Society, Trumpington Stitchers, MIND,
St Mary and St Michael Church, Trumpington Community Orchard, Trumpington
Meadows Residents Group to name but a few.
The day was filled with sunshine and laughter and it was
a pleasure to see new residents at Trumpington Meadows enjoying this unique green
space right on their doorstep.
A Stakeholder Committee with resident representation has been formed to drive the community development strategy and there is now a dedicated residents Facebook page which can be found here https://www.facebook.com/TrumpingtonMeadowsCommunity/?fref=ts
There will also be allotments in the country park. To register your interest for an allotment please go to this link https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/allotments. The allotments will be managed by Cambridge City Council.
